KBVR Radio received recognition from the Oregon Association of Broadcasters for all of its hard work (and play) and is now the proud owner of four OAB awards.
Mervin Kuniawan, the Executive Producer of the station, was awarded “Best On-Air Personality” for his Friday and Sunday midnight show, Ministry of Love featuring DJAkarta. DJAkarta suggests on his show that, “The Ministry of Love starts peoples weeks off…I start the week and I end the week, and on both days people should just not work, they should just listen to me”. The OAB salutes you. You can check some of his shows out and see if you agree at

Also featured under the archives is the Morning Sports Hangover, which was awarded “Best Sports Announcer of the Year” for the efforts of the very knowledgeable and very professional Kye Johnson. His show is on Mondays and Fridays at a bright and early 8am – 9am.
KBVR also won in a couple of categories it had never entered in until this year: Best Investigative Reporting, and Best Public Service Announcement.
The “Best Public Service Announcement” went to Erin Murphy, who created her catchy “Suicide Sing-Along” as a project for her news and public affairs internship under Luke Marquez. Erin specializes in making original public service announcements, and we think she does a pretty fantastic job at making them attention-grabbing and effective:
And last but not least, Ryan Yoder won the OAB award for “Best Investigative Reporting” for his report “Monte” featured on the bi-weekly documentary radio show StoryTime. The report was about a campus celebrity Monte, who habitats outside of the library trying to direct students to the way of the Lord. Most students avoid the man at all costs, but Mr. Yoder in true honorable NPR style delved in and took a closer look and unlocked a bit of the mystery behind the man:
So congrats, guys! After not entering into the OAB competition for four years, we think you did pretty well for yourselves and we hope that kbvr keeps on keeping on with it’s skillz and mad talent and will repeat history in the coming years. Next up: National Association of Broadcasters?
